On Action for Children Sunday, Methodist churches across the country come together to celebrate and support the life-changing work of Action for Children. It is an opportunity to reflect on our calling to care for children, young people, and families, and to put our faith into action by standing alongside those facing hardship.
At Manchester Methodists, we are proud to join this annual celebration and give thanks for the work that Action for Children carries out in communities across the UK. Through practical support, advocacy, and compassionate care, the charity helps children and families overcome challenges, build resilience, and look to the future with hope.
Our Christian faith reminds us that every child is precious. Throughout the Gospels, Jesus welcomed children, valued them, and placed them at the heart of God’s kingdom. His words, “Let the little children come to me” (Mark 10:14), continue to inspire us to create communities where every child is safe, loved, and able to flourish.
Today, many families face significant pressures, including poverty, poor mental health, isolation, domestic abuse, and the rising cost of living. These challenges can have a profound impact on children, but they do not have to define their future. Through services that provide family support, mental health and wellbeing programmes, fostering and adoption, and assistance for young carers and care-experienced young people, Action for Children works to ensure that children receive the care and opportunities they deserve.
As Methodist people, we are called not only to pray but also to respond with generosity and compassion. Action for Children Sunday invites each of us to consider how we can play our part. Whether through prayer, giving financially, volunteering, or simply raising awareness of the charity’s work, every act of support helps make a difference.
We encourage all our churches and congregations to remember Action for Children in their prayers this Sunday and throughout the year. We also give thanks for everyone involved in the charity’s work; staff, volunteers, foster carers, supporters, and partners—whose commitment transforms lives every day.
Together, we can help ensure that more children and young people experience hope, security, and the opportunity to reach their full potential.
