About Didsbury with Barlow Moor Methodist Church
Our mission is to worship God, grow in faith and bear witness to the love of Jesus in our church and community, as individuals and as a church.
There has been a Methodist Church building on our site since 1870 but the church itself has gone through many changes. One early change was that the Church building in Burnage burned down adding members of that congregation to ours and providing the money to add a “Burnage Room,” to our premises. In the late 1980s the congregation looked long and hard at the large church building that was St Pauls Methodist church. The running costs were very high for a small congregation. In addition, a small ex-primitive Methodist chapel in Albert Hill street had a dwindling congregation. It was decided to sell both the old church buildings, amalgamate the two churches to become Didsbury Methodist church. It was also decided to develop the modern Sunday School buildings to the rear of the St Paul’s church as our new church. Later we became involved with the Barlow Moor Methodist church who were meeting at the Community Centre on the Barlow Moor estate. They became a class of Didsbury and eventually closed to join us at Didsbury.
The church has a fairly small membership but has an active outward looking view of witness and mission.
Users of our premises include:
- Rainbows, Brownies and Guides
- A Thriving Camera Club
- A photography group, concentrating on techniques
- A Writers Group
- A Playgroup
The church itself offers a number of activities that are changed from time to time as we see needs and opportunities:
- A Play and Stay group for toddlers and parents
- A monthly fellowship meal
- A Tuesday Fellowship
- A monthly craft session on a Saturday morning
- A mid-week meeting for those still at work
- Bible Study
- Above all, lively but traditional Sunday Worship each week!
