Prayer Activity for Lent

You will need:

A pot (a yoghurt pot will do), with a drainage hole

soil/compost

a seed (an apple, orange or lemon pip will do)

John 12:23-25 New International Version (NIV)

23 Jesus replied, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. 24 Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. 25 Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

Hold in your hand a seed,
small and brittle,
new life that can only be realised
when that seed is buried in the dark earth,
tended by water and sun.

Our lives are like that seed,
filled with potential,
yet buried in darkness,
while we wonder if new growth will come.

Plant your seed, a few centimetres down and then cover

Tended by the light of Christ,
and the water of your word,
bring forth new life,
and draw us closer still to you.

Amen.

1 Corinthians 3:6 New International Version (NIV)

I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.
