Refugee Week 2026 takes place from 15–21 June and is the world’s largest arts and cultural festival celebrating the contributions, creativity, and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary. Established in the UK in 1998, Refugee Week brings together communities through arts, education, culture, and shared experiences.
This year’s theme is “Courage.” The theme recognises the daily courage shown by refugees as they navigate uncertain journeys, learn new languages, adapt to unfamiliar environments, and rebuild their lives. It also highlights the courage found in everyday acts of welcome, friendship, and solidarity within local communities.
Across the UK, organisations, churches, schools, councils, and community groups are marking the week with exhibitions, cultural events, discussions, performances, and opportunities to learn more about the experiences of people seeking safety and a new beginning. Refugee Week encourages people from all backgrounds to connect, celebrate diversity, and build more welcoming communities.
As Refugee Week coincides with World Refugee Day on 20 June, it provides an opportunity to reflect on the importance of compassion, dignity, and hope for those forced to flee conflict, persecution, or disaster. Through shared stories and simple acts of kindness, communities can help create a society where everyone has the opportunity to belong and thrive.
