Solar Eclipse Viewing Party

  • The Solar Eclipse is at its 91% maximum over Manchester at 7.10pm on Wednesday 12th August. The elevation of 12% will be ok to view from the church grounds.
  • The event at Manley Park Church on Egerton Road North and Cromwell Avenue, Whalley Range will start at 6pm and go on until 8pm. The moon will begin to go in front of the sun from about 6pm. We will serve food from then.
  • We will have a ‘science table’ with projection, books etc. Other phenomena will be covered such as the pinhole properties of tree foliage, eclipse paths, and so on.
  • We have videos and explanations about solar eclipses (good if the Manchester weather intervenes for the whole 2 hours!)
  • There will be a craft table for children and adults to make pinhole projectors out of cereal boxes.
  • We are very conscious of eye safety so there will be Eclipse Glasses available for all who want them.

The next Solar Eclipse with this much cover is in 2090 so, get in early!!
