Coming to the end of my first year in this circuit, and writing this as we begin to face yet another heatwave – I’m hopeful that this year has been one of “warming up” into Manchester life.
During the course of this year, I’ve visited all of the chapels in the Circuit – thank you for your hospitality and welcome that you have shown to me, and on occasion, to the family too.
I’ve been encouraged by the dedication and ambition of our chapel communities. In every community, I’ve seen passionate, hardworking, people looking out for people and places to serve other people. I’ve heard about ways in which outreach is happening, and I’ve seen firsthand the worship and discipleship life to which we are all called. What a privilege to have shared that with you all!
Coming to the end of the year, I do so with so much gratitude for those who have served the Circuit for a number of years. There are several people who are stepping away from the Circuit Meeting Trustee body – and I am grateful for each one of you. I’d like to pay particular attention to Bernard Treves Brown, stepping down as Circuit Treasurer, Daphne Dawson, stepping down as Circuit Senior Steward, and Paula Collins, stepping down from safeguarding officer. Each of these rolls bring great responsibility for the health, wellbeing, and frankly wealth of the circuit – and we are indebted to Bernard, Daphne, and Paula for all that they have given. Thank you.
Stepping into the summer, and looking towards the new Connexional Year – I wonder what God is warming us for. My hope and prayer is that for us all, we take opportunities to lean into God’s love more deeply, worship more authentically, and share our faith more confidently. We will do so, welcoming Revd Sharon back with us following her burn-out, and Revd. Paul following his sabbatical. We also welcome Revd. Joseph Muwanzi and his family from Zimbabwe – please do find ways to help him and his family settle well into the UK. He will be serving Crumpsall, Fallowfield and The Centre, as well as identifying ways in which we can better notice, know, use, and develop Black leadership across the circuit.
