Today, we remember that every life matters. World Suicide Prevention Day is an opportunity to
pause, to notice those around us, and to remind one another that we don’t have to face difficult times alone.
As a Methodists, we believe in a God who meets us in the darkness and walks alongside us in the places where life feels difficult. Sometimes offering hope is as simple as listening, making a phone call, sharing a cup of tea, or asking someone, “How are you really doing?”
If you are struggling today, please know that you are not a burden. It is okay to ask for help. It is okay not to be okay.
Let us be a community where people feel safe to speak, where we listen without judgement, and where nobody feels they have to carry their pain alone.
How can I mark the day?
- Light a candle
- Say a prayer
- Check in with someone
- Be a listening ear
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted.” – Psalm 34:18
Suicide is not inevitable. You can interrupt someone’s suicidal thoughts. You could save a life.

If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, please contact emergency services. In the UK, you can also call Samaritans on 116 123, free, day or night.
Together, we can create hope through connection, compassion and care.
