Loving God, as we move into March this year we move almost immediately into Lent. We sometimes think Lent is a time for giving things up, and we may feel we have done rather a lot of giving things up in recent months! Remind us that Lent is a time for positive action, and reflection about who we are, what we do, and what really matters in our lives. May it be for us a time of preparation for the solemn and joyful celebrations which will follow. As the end of the month draws near, we shall enter Spring and be reminded of new birth and new life, a pointer towards Easter. And then we shall celebrate Mothering Sunday. Help us to remember its true significance by acknowledging the importance of the Church in our lives and giving thanks for what it means to us. March ends with the commemoration (on March 31st)) of John Donne, who invites us to reflect on the truths of our creation and your incarnation.
The Son of glory came down, and was slain,
Us whom he had made, and Satan stol’n, to unbind.
‘Twas much, that man was made like God before,
But, that God should be made like man, much more.
(From Holy Sonnet 11)
Bless our journey through March and guide us as we reflect on our relationships with the world, with one another, with our Church and above all with you.
Amen
Adrian Curtis
