Passion Sunday – Reflection

“I will put my Spirit in you and you will live.” Ezekiel 37: 14a
What an amazing vision Ezekiel had! Bones and tendons reattached, flesh and skin replaced and, most importantly life breathed into those bones filling the dry valley.

We may feel that we are in a dry valley; hope seems far off. But we are God’s people and have the life-giving Spirit. Let us live life as fully as we can and be filled with the certain hope and assurance that God is with us.

“’Yes, Lord,’ she replied, ‘I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is come into the world.’” John 11:27

Mary and Martha were at the lowest ebb of their lives; their beloved brother, Lazarus, had died; Jesus hadn’t responded quickly enough to their request for healing. They had every reason to be overwhelmed with sorrow and to criticise Jesus. Yet Martha made this exceptional statement of faith.

Loving and compassionate God, we give thanks that you sent Jesus into the world to reveal yourself to us. We give thanks for your Holy Spirit breathing true spiritual life into us. We pray for one another in this time of separation; may we each experience blessing and love. Amen
